The Reading Zone

 

This project helps promote literacy in rural schools. Many schools are poor and lack the very basic resourses to enchance literacy, it is possible to find only a handful of pencils and books in an entire school. We work with Head teachers to supply books to build small libraries and provide pencils and exercise books.

 

The charity also provides volunteers to spend time with orphans and other children in reading groups in school. This programme is to encourage children to enjoy reading as it helps in development and vocabulary.

 

Income Generating Projects

 

The NGO sets up income generating schemes for orphans who are caring for siblings.This scheme create opportunities to generate money  in the following ways

 

Through the rearing of livestock: orphans recieve around a dozen chickens with full equipment

 

The keeping of goats.

 

Purchasing grinding machines for pepper and other food items

 

The extra income makes a big difference to the overall quality of family life and it is also a way of restoring dignity and hope amongst orphans.

 

Community Enterprises

 

The charity helps to create employment in the local community by working with local craftsmen to build benches and desks. for schools. The reason for this project is children can often been seen having lessons on dirty classroom floors, we want to create a better enviroment for learning.

 

This scheme is funded by the charity and provides a source of income for those who otherwise would have been out of work.
